  • Samsung Show has disclosed that it will develop rollable and sliding shows in 2021.
  • The information will come just after LG and Oppo each disclosed rollable smartphone tech.

LG and Oppo have each teased or shown smartphones with rollable shows in modern months, but it seems like a further key participant could be moving into the sector.

Samsung Exhibit senior vice-president Kwon-Youthful Choi confirmed all through an earnings simply call (h/t: The Elec) that it will “fortify our existence in the exhibit marketplace by way of impressive form aspects these as rollable and sliding displays.”

The executive didn’t confirm regardless of whether these screens would indeed be for smartphones, but Samsung filed a patent back in 2019 for a rollable cellphone that resembles Oppo and LG’s initiatives. See the render by LetsGoDigital in the major image over.

The Korean producer has also submitted patents related to telephones with sliding displays. More specifically, a single patent filed in 2019 displays a screen that slides down and to the again of the unit, revealing a selfie digicam and other sensors at the top (examine it out under). Yet another patent submitted previous 12 months displays a phone that’s much more like a Nokia N95, currently being capable to slide up or down and that includes a rear display screen much too.

There’s no assurance that Samsung itself will release rollable or sliding telephones, as its Samsung Exhibit arm could theoretically be establishing the tech for other producers as perfectly. But the patent filings plainly clearly show that Samsung is thinking about these show kinds, so we would not be amazed if we see Samsung telephones with this tech.
