JOHANNESBURG – The “lacking” Fourways hippo is alive, properly and back again at its organic habitat, opposite to social media promises that it had been captured and slaughtered for its meat.
The runaway mammal was first spotted wandering about in Chartwell near the Jukskei River previous month and afterwards in the Fourways area.
Final week, the Gauteng Agriculture Office mentioned that it was functioning intently with the North West provincial federal government to raise initiatives to discover the elusive hippo.
On Monday, pictures of a hippo being slaughtered circulated on social media, with claims it was the Fourways hippo.
Nonetheless, the rumours are simply not correct, the agricultural section told Eyewitness News.
“The hippo that was noticed in Chartwell at the close of December is not lacking. It has long gone back to its original habitat (Hartbeespoort Dam) and this was discovered with the assistance of the know-how applied by Endangering Wildlife Trust (EWT). The Gauteng Agriculture Division and EWT are checking the actions of the hippo,” the department’s Nozipho Hlabangana reported.
