JOHANNESBURG – The “lacking” Fourways hippo is alive, perfectly and back at its purely natural habitat, opposite to social media claims that it experienced been captured and slaughtered for its meat.
The runaway mammal was initially noticed wandering close to in Chartwell near the Jukskei River very last month and later in the Fourways space.
Very last week, the Gauteng Agriculture Section claimed that it was functioning carefully with the North West provincial authorities to boost endeavours to obtain the elusive hippo.
On Monday, images of a hippo being slaughtered circulated on social media, with claims it was the Fourways hippo.
Nevertheless, the rumours are just not true, the agricultural division advised Eyewitness Information.
“The hippo that was spotted in Chartwell at the end of December is not missing. It has gone back again to its initial habitat (Hartbeespoort Dam) and this was uncovered with the assistance of the technological know-how applied by Endangering Wildlife Rely on (EWT). The Gauteng Agriculture Office and EWT are monitoring the movements of the hippo,” the department’s Nozipho Hlabangana explained.
